Team Awareness Kit (TAK) is a geospatial situational awareness platform that enables teams to share a common operating picture in real time. TAK allows users to view personnel locations, assets, and operational data on interactive maps across mobile, desktop, and server environments. By providing secure, networked visibility of mission-critical information, TAK improves coordination, communication, and decision-making for responders operating in dynamic and complex environments.

When used in conjunction with environmental monitoring systems, TAK enhances situational awareness by integrating live sensor data, alerts, and georeferenced measurements directly onto the map. Environmental readings—such as air quality, hazardous gas levels, or radiological indicators—can be displayed alongside team locations and operational boundaries, allowing leaders to quickly assess risk, adjust tactics, and protect personnel. EPATAK is the EPA’s environmentally focused implementation of the Team Awareness Kit (TAK), designed to integrate real-time environmental monitoring directly into a shared operational picture. Using the CBRN-Civ TAK plugin, EPATAK streams live instrument readings from field sensors into TAK, allowing responders and decision-makers to view environmental conditions alongside personnel, assets, and operational boundaries. This creates a unified platform where situational awareness and environmental intelligence are available in real time.

When combined with EPA’s VIPER Survey and Deployment Manager, EPATAK enables seamless flow of data from field instruments to map-based visualization and alerting. Live readings are displayed through a meter grid, CBRN-specific marker icons, and survey waypoints that capture georeferenced measurements as teams move through an area. Threshold alerts, time-series data, and mapped readings support rapid risk assessment, operational adjustments, and personnel safety decisions.
